Mick McGahey
Article Abstract:
Mick McGahey was a British labor union leader who was an open communist, which did not have the implications for him that it would have had in the US. There were claims in 1974 by the then prime minister, Edward Heath, that McGahey sought to overthrow the government by backing a miners' strike. McGahey himself called for the government to be removed by voters, and this was what happened. McGahey was seen as a man who abided by is agreements, though he could be tough in negotiations.
