Gulf states explore new avenues
Article Abstract:
The continuing decline in world oil prices may supply impetus to privatization programmes in the Middle East. In Qatar, the government plans to sell 40% of the shares in Qatar Public Telecommunications Corp by the end of 1998 in order to reduce its budget deficit, while the Kuwait Investment Authority announced plans to float 25 million shares in Contracting and Marine Service Co between Sep 15, 1998, and Sep 30, 1998. There are continued hopes that the government of Bahrain will go ahead with private power and water schemes.
