Minimizing makespan for flow shop scheduling by combining simulated annealing with sequencing knowledge
Article Abstract:
A new technique for the application of simulated annealing to the flow shop scheduling problem is studied. The method combines simulated annealing with problem specific knowledge to create an annealing scheme where the number of control parameters are decreased to eliminate the need for high quality solutions for fine tuning. The results show that the solutions obtained in this manner are better than those obtained using traditional heuristics.

Cell formation in manufacturing systems through simulated annealing: an experimental evaluation
Article Abstract:
A demonstration on the use of simulated annealing as a solution to the problem of machine grouping, which is significant to Cellular Manufacturing Systems, is presented. Simulated annealing algorithms are easily implemented as compared to the K-means algorithm and generates better results for the best parameter setting. This simulated annealing is best suited for large problems with interval level data in relation to work load balance.

Thermostatistical persistency: a powerful improving concept for simulated annealing algorithms
Article Abstract:
The simulated annealing algorithm is extended into a heuristic procedure for solving 0-1 optimization problems. The method, which has a higher convergence speed, approximates the anticipated variable values for given temperatures to enable the problem size to be compressed in proportion with the temperature. Its use in solving the traveling salesman and the minimization of an unconstrained 0-1 quadratic function is discussed.
