Modernisation and capacity extension
Article Abstract:
Chemopetrol (Litvinov, Czech Republic), petrochemical company, plans to complete the modernisation of its crucial petrochemical production units. The projects includes the intensification of the polyethylene unit to a capacity of 250,000-270,000 t per year, the construction of a new polypropylene unit with a capacity of 200,000-250,000 t per year and the intensification of the ethylene unit to a capacity of 560,000 t per year. In 1997 the company generated an operating profit of 1.6 bil Kc, 600 mil Kc more than it had expected. Its 1997 net profit amounted to 25 mil Kc and among other things was reduced by the financial cost which reached 700 mil Kc consequent on the exchange-rate of the Czech crown against the Deutschmark and the US dollar. Chemopetrol's main products include ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, ammonia and urea. The company exports about 40% of its production, 50% of its exports going to CEFTA countries. Its largest export markets are Germany and Poland, demand being expected to rise on both. Exports to Slovaka represent about 10% of Chemopetrol's total sales.
