Article Abstract:
More Malaysian firms have begun laying off their workers in reaction to the Southeast Asian currency crisis. Hundreds of employees have been relieved of their jobs by firms such as Binarang Sdn. Bhd., US West Inc., and Seagate Technology. The worsening unemployment rate has started to affect ordinary citizens who also have had to contend with rising food prices. Foreigners have been first to go as part of the government's regulation of the job market.
