Multi-storey timber frame
Article Abstract:
The UK Building Regulations 1991 lifted the restrictions on the use of timber framed construction. Timber framed construction is very useful because the frames are factory made and they do not need such deep foundations. If timber frame construction is found to be safe it will form an important part of new house development particularly in urban areas. The Timber Frame 2000 Consortium is studying the use of timber frames at BRE Cardington research centre where a six storey TF2000 brick clad timber-frame building has been built.

Medium-rise timber framing: timber-frame construction has the potential to frame a range of four-to-eight-storey buildings. Design methods are being developed
Article Abstract:
There is increasing interest in timber frame for medium rise construction because of its lower costs, high build quality and rapid construction. Its use is ideal for offices, hotels and housing, although there are currently no comprehensive UK design rules for such buildings. A feasibility study was undertaken jointly by TRADA Technology (TTL) and BRE and a further phase proposes full scale building tests to help develop authoritative guidance.

The many uses of timber frame
Article Abstract:
A conference on timber frame construction was attended by 80 architects together with planners and industry representatives. Timber frame represents a large proportion of house construction in Scotland and is also used in industrial and commercial buildings. Speakers adressed issues of quality, style, ecology and applications.
