NHAI AND MoST TO JOIN HANDS FOR PRIVATE PROJECT FUNDING
Article Abstract:
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been roped in by the Ministry of Surface Transport (MoST) to participate in the equity of private projects. The funding from NHAI is to compensate for the notional losses that these projects would suffer due to the uneconomical toll structure. The agreement between NHAI and MoST is applicable to the privatisation of four laning of projects on existing two lane national highways. A private bidder will evaluate the concession period and toll level and calculate the shortfall which will be financed by NHAI. The move is aimed at attracting private investment to such projects.
