NORWAY: TELENOR WELCOMES MERGER WITH TELE DK
Article Abstract:
Telenor, the State-owned Norwegian telecom, welcomes Danish Tele Danmark's proposal to bring about a major Nordic telecoms authority by merging the two companies. Telenor's press manager Dag Melgaard says the idea is interesting but says Telenor has not yet received a concrete proposal from Tele Danmark. Te Danmark's CEO Henning Dyremose said at a press conference in Copenhagen that Tele Danmark would be highly interested in a merger with either Telia of Sweden or Telenor of Norway provided that these two companies are privatized. The new government in Norway announced on Wednesday that it aims at a speedy privatization of Telenor.

DENMARK: "TELIA THE MOST LIKELY PARTNER FOR TDC"
Article Abstract:
Telecoms analyst Lars Larsen of Nordea Securities says regarding the rumoured merger between Danish TDC and Norwegian Telenor that "from the Nordic point of view Telia of Sweden is the most likely buyer of TDC. These companies are most compatible". Telia's press manager Cecilia Giertta says to Borsen that Telia declines to comment the matter. She admits, however, that Telia is interested in consolidation in the Nordic region. Telia's strategy is to become the biggest company in the Nordic region, which does not necessarily mean that the company aims to be the biggest in all areas, she adds.
