The market of photocopying machines rose from US$ 95mn in 1996 to about US$ 100mn in 1997, mainly due to a high demand for portables. In that field, Panasonic held a market share of 62%. According to estimates, 383,000 printers will be sold in 1998. In contrast to the field of cash registers, where Polish suppliers cover about 50% of the market, copying machines and telefax machines all need to be imported. In 1998, the sector of electronic office equipment, again excluding computers and printers, is expected to grow by 15%.

Gebremste Erholung f r die Gummiindustrie
Article Abstract:
In Italy, demand for replacement tyres is expected to grow in the second half of 1998. Replacement tyres account for two-thirds of the tyre market. The increase will be caused by the end of incentives to stimulate sales of new cars. In the first four months of 1998, prices of tyres fell by 5% as a result of cheap tyres from Asia. In terms of tons, 75% of demand is covered by imports. In 1997, tyre production in Italy grew by 1% to 350,734 tons. Production of tyres for commercial and industrial vehicles grew by 8%, while production of tyres for motor bikes and mopeds fell by 26%. Italian manufacturers are demanding a reduced VAT rate for environmental friendly re-capped tyres.
