Net ad networks move into Quebec

Montreal, Canada's Invention Media is an active player in Quebec, Canada's Internet advertising market behind its Cible.Net ad network. Cible.Net was launched in late August with Gallop & Gallop Advertising of Toronto, Canada-based Virtual Billboard Network (VBN). The use of VBN 's technical infrastructure allows Cible.Net to concentrate on growing a Quebec-wide network of publishers, according to VBN Vice-President Chris Larsen. DoubleClick Canada, which represents five Quebec sites, also makes its presence felt in Quebec with the acquisition of Soussy.com. The transaction gives DoubleClick some of the biggest sites in the province.

Canuck shops do merger deals

Promonad Communications, an advertising agency headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, will be acquired by Communique Group, a rival company also based in Toronto, for an undisclosed amount. The purchase deal, if consummated, will allow the two firms to form a new entity with a 150-person workforce, C$17 million in revenues as well as C$55 million worth of accounts. The transaction comes as another advertising agency, Wolf Group Ltd. of Toronto plans to pursue the acquisition of Partners & Shevack, a rival firm based in New York City, NY. The deal will allow Wolf to enhance its current billings to more than $400 million.

No conflicts in Publicis/Saatchi deal

Saatchi and Saatchi PLC's $1.64-billion (C$2.4-billion) purchase by Paris, France-based Publicis SA, a development that will create the fifth-biggest advertising agency in the world, has been certified to be conflict-free. Toronto, Ontario-based Saatchi and Saatchi Pres and CEO Richard Olsen said that his meeting with Publicis Canada Pres Serge Rancourt confirmed that the union has been approved by all of the two companies' global clients.
