With the agreement between the NHL and NHL marketers expiring in September, and lack of consensus between the two parties over a new agreement, the 2004-05 NHL season is likely to be off. Besides causing disappointment to fans, it will impact broadcasters and advertisers in a big way. Marketers are looking for alternative sports events to counter the looming crisis.

Media broadcasters and vendors are coming up with innovative ideas to enhance their brand image. Earlier this year the CBC unveiled a new board game called Hockey Nights in Canada, and recently Maclean's as well as CTV opened branded stores at Pearson Airport, in Toronto.
