Nokia boosts net, phone forecast, but margins slip

Nokia Corp. of Finland posted third quarter net profits of 881 million Euros ($1.06 billion) increasing by 29 percent and sales rose 18 percent to 8.4 billion Euros. The wireless telecommunications equipment company was buoyed by demand for new mobile phone models with cameras and music players, increasing profit forecasts for the company. However, gross profit margins are stretched for Nokia Corp. with increased competition for market share.

Nokia Chief offers rosy assessment of mobile market

Nokia Corp. of Finland is forecasting that sales for mobile devices for this year will be 780 million product units and that growth will continue into next year. The mobile phone carrier sold 23 million mobile phones in Asia, an increase of 77 percent through to September of this year. Net sales are up by 18 percent for the third quarter.
