Norilsk Nickel to merge two unprofitable plants

RAO Norilsk Nickel, a metal company based in Russia, is intending to merge Pechenganickel and Severonickel factories, the company's unprofitable units in the Murmansk region, according to company spokesperson Anatoly Komrakov. However, the company denied the combination of the two unprofitable factories is part of the company's preparation of its sale. The combination is about reducing costs through a better manufacturing coordination, added Komrakov. The Severonickel and Pechenganickel facilities have been unprofitable due to high expenditure connected to maintaining the communities that surround the facilities.
