Article Abstract:
Glaxo has the patent for ranitidine. On December 18, 1998, it applied to the drug authorities in USA for extension of the patent. It has found that ranitidine could be used safely for treating gastric disorders in children. This is likely to affect the launch of the approved version of ranitidine in USA by Ranbaxy Laboratories. Ranbaxy Laboratories had planned to launch a 75 mg over-the-counter ranitidine formulation in USA. (rk/kvr)
