On display: BARCO maps out its future
Article Abstract:
BARCO Display Systems of Belgium is unveiling a new avionics family concept at the 1998 Farnborough International aerospace exhibition in the UK. The new products mark an important transition for the company from rugged CRT (cathode ray tube) displays to ruggedized flat panel LCDs. New models from the company include the latest RFD 251 rugged 20in flat panel display, which the US Navy chose to equip its E-2C Hawkeye with. The US Navy contract and future orders are expected to make the company an important growth engine for the overall BARCO Group, which had a 1997 turnover of $610 million.

The engine of choice for the military transport aircraft will be revealed after Airbus Military is certain that it will be the contractor for Europe's airlifter program. Airbus' A400M program was hailed as the likely airlifter to be chosen, except that Germany was leaning towards the An-70 from Ukraine and Russia.
