Article Abstract:
The banking industry in the Czech Republic is in dire economic straits, due at least in part to the worst bad loan percentage in Central Europe. Finance minister Ivan Pilip has persuaded the government to sell its share in one bank to a Japanese securities firm and is hoping to sell at least three others.

Article Abstract:
Thailand's banks are beset by non-performing loans related to overly ambitious property development in Bangkok and elsewhere. Some suppose that roughly a tenth of all at Thai banks are non-performing. Thailand's central bank and finance ministry disagree on the best remedy.

Nomura bravura: Czech banking
Article Abstract:
The long-standing policy by the Czech government to disallow the acquisition of its holdings by foreign banks has finally been overturned. According the Czech finance minister, a plan is being devised for the sale of state's holdings by the end of October 1996.
