On the limits and possibilities of the principle of minimum differentiation
Article Abstract:
Harold Hotelling, who introduces another variable in the duopoly model of Bertrand that companies compete both in price and location, has included horizontal product differentiation in his arguments. However, after 50 years, researchers found a flaw in Hotelling's analysis concluding that firms benefit from undercutting each other and that there is no pure strategy Nash equilibrium price.
