Open space planning in London
Article Abstract:
A green strategy is being proposed for open space planning in London, UK, by two London Planning Advisory Committee (LPAC)-commissioned reports. The first proposes a metropolis-wide 'green web' for nature conservation, recreation and non-mechanised transport. The second proposes a revised Park Hierarchy with emphasis on functionality and visual quality. Since 1925, open space planning concepts have included: Green Chains, Nature Conservation, the Park Hierarchy, the Interconnected Park System, the Green Belt, and Open Space Standards. The adoption and rejection of key concepts is discussed, together with an assessment of their value.
