Waste not!
Article Abstract:
Germany's Bundestag passed a law requiring manufacturers to collect and recycle packaging materials used for products sold within the country. The legislation drew mixed reactions. Environmentalists saw it as too lax while social democrats called for clearer recycling requirements. Another law still under study would require retailers to collect used electrical appliances for recycling. The impact of these laws go beyond environmental protection, for changes will have to be implemented within the manufacturing industry in the areas of both packaging and product design to reduce costs the law would bring about.
