Article Abstract:
The German agency responsible for managing the privatization of state-run enterprises in former East Germany, the Treuhand, is being criticized for catering to larger West German businesses at the expense of the smaller Mittelstand firms. Treuhand will ease the bidding rules for buyout offers in Aug 1992.

Article Abstract:
The German economy fell into recession after reunification for three reasons: the currency union, the undesirability East German manufactures, and the loss of East Germany's export market in the former communist bloc. Truehand agency officials believe privatization will improve East Germany's economy.

The visible Treuhand
Article Abstract:
Germany's Treuhandanstalt has done a very good job in privatizing some 5,000 enterprises from the former East Germany, but that does not mean its methods would work in other East European countries. They do not have the access to finances Germany uses to keep non-viable companies afloat.
