Out of the darkness
Article Abstract:
Electrification was developed by pioneers such as Thomas Edison, who made electric lighting commercially viable. He opposed the usage of alternating current, which Nikola Tesla had invented, seeking to impose direct current as the standard, but he failed in this attempt. George Westinghouse was his opponent in the battle over standards, and Edison sought to have 'Westinghoused' introduced as a term meaning 'electrocuted'. Electricity was initially used for lighting, and later spread to be used in household appliances in general.
