Overseas tourism and the over 50s
Article Abstract:
About 9.1 million British people aged over 50 took overseas holidays in 1995, with this age group accounting for about 37% of all foreign holiday bookings. Travel agents are used to book about 80% of foreign holidays taken by the over 50s as they prefer to discuss specific requirements and seek advice face-to-face. Just a small proportion of inclusive holidays booked by the over 50s are specifically aimed at their age group, with many not wanting to feel stigmatised. The market for cruises, long haul, activity and short break holidays is expected to grow among the over 50s. The market is examined.
