Palace coup
Article Abstract:
A state of emergency has been decalred in Sudan by the president, Omar Bashir, who has sent troops to control the parliament and suspended some of the constitution. National Congress Party, which was once allied to the president, is in opposition, with Hassan Turabi, the leader of that party. The public is apathetic, and Bashir claims to be backed by the security forces. Sudan has suffered from civil war for most of the 43 years that it has been independent.
