PFC DANGLES CARROT FOR SETTING UP SERCs
Article Abstract:
The Power Finance Corporation plans to give a subsidy of 5 percent on loans taken to improve generation in a bid to encourage setting up of regulatory authorities at state levels. The stipulation for the subsidy is that the regulatory authority has to be set up in 1998-99. PFC is likely to disburse about Rs1500 crore to different state electricity boards under the subsidy programme. PFC had initially announced a subsidy of 4 percent on loans taken for accelerated generation and power supply programmes but has increased the subsidy by one percent to encourage state governments to set up electricity regulatory authorities.
