POWERING AHEAD - BHEL PSSR
Article Abstract:
The Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd PSSR (Power Sector Southern Region) sets up electricity generation plants. It also undertakes contracts for renovating old power plants. It has undertaken several projects in the States of southern India like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, it is setting up 3 electricity plants of 50 mw capacity each. In Karnataka, it is establishing 6 power plants. These include the 2x210 mw Raichur thermal plant and the 2x235 mw Kaiga nuclear plant. Its major contracts in 1998-99 include commissioning of two 500 mw capacity plants for the National Thermal Power Corporation at Simhadri in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. It has commissioned the boiler at the Raichur thermal power plant in a record 26 months and 15 days. Its engineering procurement and construction wing commissioned on January 1, 1999, the first unique unit of the 2x130 mw plant of Jindal. It has completed setting the last 2 life extension units at the Neyveli thermal station. These are some of the projects of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd PSSR. It has 791 employees. In 1997-98, it made a net profit of Rs2,959 lakh on a turnover of Rs19,493 lakh. As on December 25, 1998, it had orders worth Rs67,000 lakh. (gs) (kvr)

BHEL TO BUILD GT TEST PLANT AT VISAKHAPATNAM

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Hyderabad, plans to construct a gas turbine test facility at Visakhapatnam. This facility will assemble, test and transport higher rating gas turbines to various parts of the country and also across the world. BHEL crossed making of 100 gas turbines. It has tied up with General Electric Gas Turbine Services Ltd for after sales service of gas turbines. (um)(m)
