A small world
Article Abstract:
The financial crisis in South Korea is forcing many South Korean companies to reconsider plans for large investment projects in Europe. Daewoo, for example, has postponed a $300 million plant producing glass cathode-ray tubes planned for Thionville, France. Similarly, Hyundai will delay completion of a $4 billion semiconductor plant in Dunfermline, Scotland. It is possible that Europe will avoid closure of existing South Korean operations, but a reduction in new investments seems inevitable.

In the bunker: Southeast Asian foreign ministers are discomfited by a new take on an old principle
Article Abstract:
Thai Foreign Minister Surin Pitsuwan proposed that Asean members be allowed to discuss each other's domestic affairs openly, at the annual conference held in Manila. This was supported by Domingo Saizon of the Philippines, although Asean elders declared that the principle of non-interference was sacrosanct. However an agreement was reached on enhanced interaction on issues affecting other members.
