Peasant migrant role in China's economic activity
Article Abstract:
A recalculation of the official statistics released by the Chinese government on peasant farm labor shows the big role peasants play in the improvement of China's developing economy. Official records show farm labor has remained the same from 1989 to 1995. In reality, farm labor migrates to urban centers when economic conditions dictate higher labor requirements, and return to farming as labor demands decrease. Household survey figures on alcohol, tobacco and food expenditures of rural families, which amount to 368 yuan compared to the official figure of 51 yuan, attest to the increasing affluence of rural families due to forms of migration.

Article Abstract:
The motion picture industry has been vocal in criticizing China's communist system. A number of films have been made and shown depicting Buddhism and atrocities done by Chinese communists. Such movies include 'Kundun,' 'Seven Years in Tibet' and 'The Last Emperor.' Some actors have even converted to the religion and are advocating their teachings and philosophy.
