Pepsi ads take aim at Coke icons

Pepsi Cola Canada's new radio spots is a twist of its Pepsi taste challenge, where people are asked to choose their favorite cola in blind taste tests. The spots, created by BBDO Canada, feature a Pepsi spokesperson deliberately provoking traditional Coke icons. One of the ads shows an interviewer entering the cave of a hibernating polar bear, prodding the bear to accept the Pepsi challenge. A spokesman for Pepsi said the campaign aims to take the core message of the taste challenge and tie it with the brand imaging.

Coke plans media consolidation

Toronto, Ontario's Coca-Cola Ltd is conducting a review of its media- buying and planning assignments worth over $20 million. The objective is to consolidate the job using a single Canadian advertising agency. Five agencies have already been shortlisted for the account, namely, Optimedia Canada, English Canada, Initiative media, Starcom, Cossette Communication- Marketing and MediaVest. Coke will decide on its choice by early summer 1999.

Cadbury Schweppes Canada has launched a sweepstakes promotion, which offers a grand prize of a $200,000 E*Trade account, targeted at E*Trade Canada's high demographic.
