The French market for refrigeration appliances
Article Abstract:
The article among others, discusses two legislation and their effects on the French market for refrigeration appliances. First is the law which prohibits the use of cfcs gases as a refrigerating agent. This legislation encouraged manufactures to use of the ecologically-friendly natural gas isobutane, which is also appreciated for its energy- and noise-reduction properties. The other legislation which will also significantly alter the industry, concerns energy labelling. This ruling which rates a products energy efficiency, is expected to encourage consumers to buy products which have lower running costs. This will, in the long run, encourage manufacturers to develop and produce more efficient products.

Markets for personal care appliances in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the UK are analyzed. Major trends in the industry observed were the prevalence of replacement sales in major markets, the decline in prices due to the onslaught of Asian imports and market expansion for professional-style appliances. Replacement demand is expected to dominate saturated markets while product innovations will continue to boost sales. Convenience, versatility and portability will determine the marketability of personal care appliances.

A number of trends characterize the Italian personal care products market. The market had a total value of 209 billion lire in 1993. Pistol grip hair dryers hold the largest market share in the hairdryer sector at 83%. The sales of men's and women's dry shavers also decreased by 13.4% and 11%, respectively in 1993. Independent retailers account for 43% of sales followed by hypermarkets at 19%. Backgrounds on major manufacturers are presented.
