Peru's post-election surge
Article Abstract:
The Peruvian government is likely to sell minority stakes in a number of utilities following elections held in 1995. The government aims to promote popular capitalism so will focus on domestic small investors rather than foreign investors and institutions. Companies likely to be privatized include telecoms and electricity enterprises, in addition to power generating firms such as Edegel, and Cementos Sur, a cement producer. Sedapal, a water and sewage utility, is also scheduled for privatization.

Peru rethinks strategy
Article Abstract:
Peru may review its privatisation strategy because of the border conflict with Ecuador. It has resulted in increased demand for fuel to transport troops to the combat zone, and the Petroperu refinery, which had been scheduled for sell off, has been working around the clock to meet demand. Banco Continental and Cahua, a small generating unit owned by Electroperu, are still scheduled for auction ahead of the April polling.
