Peugeot posts net profit on cost savings

PSA Peugeot Citroen announced that it posted a 484 million euros ($529.3 million) net profit for the 1998 year. In 1997, the company posted a 422 million net loss. Peugeot's figures were improved a great deal by the vibrant automobile market in Western Europe and by major savings in costs in its automobile unit. The company also expressed optimism about 1999. In addition, Peugeot has been willing to consider possible acquisition or mergers.

Apotex launches generic Plavix, pressuring Bristol-Myers, Sanofi

Apotex Inc. of Canada has launched a generic knock off of the blood thinner Plavix. Product sales may cut into the market share of the original patent developers Sanofi-Aventis S.A. of France and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. of the United States. Plavix is the second best selling drug worldwide.
