Roche's net rises strongly, buoyed by cancer drugs

Roche Holding AG doubles its first-half net profits thanks to strong sales of its cancer drugs and a hefty pre-tax gain that resulted from the company's having called in a bond issue. Established cancer medications, MabThera and Herceptin performed well, as did Avastin, the more recently introduced treatment for colorectal cancer.

Novartis buys American rights to antidepressant
Article Abstract:
Novartis AG of Switzerland has bought United States licensing rights to the antidepressant agomelatine from the pharmaceutical company Servier of France. Marketing approval for agomelatine was filed with the European Union regulator in 2005.
