Philips unveils a versatile chip

Philips Electronics NV's semiconductor division is introducing a new programmable digital chip for multiappliance and multimedia usage. The chip is designed for consumer electronics. The chip is called the Silicon Systems Platform. Producers and users can add and delete computer software for certain features and applications with the chip. Philips believes the chip will redefine its operations.
