PizzaExpress to invest $126 million to expand

PizzaExpress PLC will spend 75 million pounds sterling ($126 million) in a span of five years to expand its business. The restaurant chain, which wants to brings its restaurant total to 350, intends to add 30 restaurants a year and create as many as 4,500 jobs over the five-year period it indicated. PizzaExpress, which recorded a 42% increase in its pretax profit for the fiscal year that ended Jun. 30, 1998 and a 40% increase in sales in the same year, has established 32 restaurants in 1997. The chain is likewise gearing toward overseas expansion with five franchises in other countries including India and Egypt.

Investors line up for shares of TPI

Telefonica Publicidad & Informacion SA (TPI) announced that its initial public offering (IPO) was oversubscribed by as much as 7.5 times during its first three days. TPI acknowledged that it had received 652 billion pesetas (3.92 billion euros) worth of offers since the beginning of the IPO on June 7, 1999. The telephone-directory company will offer up to 35% of itself in the IPO. TPI is based in Spain.
