Article Abstract:
Chemopetrol (Litvinov, Czech Republic), petrochemical company, will invest over 8 bil Kc in modernisation during 1999-2002. The modernisation should raise Chemopetrol's polyethylene production to 320,000 t and its polypropylene production to 250,000 t per year. The project has been the most meaningful investment in the Czech chemical industry since 1989. About 50% of the total sum will be invested in technologies and 50% in construction and complementary jobs. The polyethylene intensification licence will be provided by Union Carbide (US) and the polypropylene technology will be supplied by Amoco (US). After 2002, Chemopetrol plans to invest another about 12 bil Kc in the modernisation of its old ethylene unit and the construction of a new benzene unit. In 1997 Chemopetrol generated a turnover of more than 18 bil Kc. The company belongs to the group Unipetrol (Czech Republic).

Gas is ensured
Article Abstract:
Transgas (Czech Republic), natural gas importer, will start to take natural gas from Russia from 01 January 1999, according to a 15-year contract. Transgas arranged the contract with Gazexport (Russia), subsidiary of Gazprom (Russia), in October 1998. The contract is worth a total of 10 bil USD and regards the supplies of 8-9 bil cu mt of natural gas per year. Russian natural gas should cover 75% of domestic consumption. Besides, both the partners arranged a contract on the conditions of the transit of Russian gas through the Czech territory to Western Europe by 2020.
