Recent trade decisions by the European Commission and Sir Leon Brittan, the competition commissioner have caused member countries to ask for a separate antitrust authority. Brittan's latest decision in favor of French firm Alcatel's takeover of AEG Kabel, a German firm, is one of the unpopular decisions.
