Article Abstract:
The liberalization of the United Kingdom electricity market enters a new phase when domestic consumers are able to select suppliers from Jun 1999. The market started to be liberalized when major companies were permitted to choose suppliers. Charges have been increased to pay for a system to allow consumers to change to new suppliers, and the cost has been more than expected. Electricity suppliers will be less keen to take on poorer households seen as bad risks in terms of paying their bills.
