Porsche is upbeat on sales despite bearish factors
Article Abstract:
Porsche AG is confident that its sales will not be affected by the current global economic difficulties and competition from other manufacturers of luxury sports-cars. The German automaker is not also worried about the possible effects of the recent increase of mark against the US dollars on its sales in the US. According to Chairman Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche continues to be optimistic because it believes that the current sales slump in Asian markets will be compensated and cushioned by the rising demand of its cars in other parts of the world. Porsche announced in the last week of September 1998 that its sales increased 20% to 4.9 billion marks in the the fiscal year that ended Jul. 31, 1998, partly due to its new roadster called Boxster.

Sweetener could add fizz to diet soft-drink sales
Article Abstract:
Hoechst AG's new sugar substitute may raise sales of diet soda. The retail of the sweetener acesulfame potassium, under the brand name Sunnett, was recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. According to Philip Marineau, PepsiCO's North American beverage chief, the new taste that comes from Hoechst's sweetener could encourage and boost sales of sodas, particularly diet drinks, which has suffered a decline since 1990 due to consumers' negative reaction to the "diet label seen in softdrinks.
