Portugal drives on with BRISA's IPO
Article Abstract:
There will be three parts to the sale of a stake of between 25% and 30% in Portuguese motorway operator BRISA. One will be a domestic retail offer, along with an international private placement and a domestic institutional offer. The government's holding in BRISA will be reduced from 99.75% to 64.71%, with Caixa Geral de Depositos and Investimento e Participacoes Empresariais each holding 5.02%. Efforts are being made to prepare BRISA for the planned expansion of the Portuguese motorway network.

Regional buses sold
Article Abstract:
Rodoviaria de Lisboa has been privatized with a 99.69% stake acquired by Inotrange-Gestao e Inovacao Transportes. This sale is one of nine involving Portuguese bus lines which have taken place between 1992 and 1995. Meanwhile, Gesitrans has acquired a controlling interest in Rodoviaria do Sul do Tejo, another Portuguese bus line, which operates south of Lisbon. Bus routes over 50 KM are not subject to price controls, while shorter routes are regulated.

Bogota's bus-based transit scheme
Article Abstract:
Stagecoach of the UK a bus operator and Volvo of Sweden a vehicle builder are part of a consortium that has been awarded a contract to provide a bus based mass transit system in Bogota. High capacity vehicles and free right of way will be more cost effective than rail options. It will be the first privately financed bus based system in the world.
