Production planning for an artists studio - a case study
Article Abstract:
A production planning system for an engraving company which manufactures copper cylinders for use in wallpaper and Christmas wrapper paper production is presented. The company is essentially make-to-order, with the bottleneck process identified as the production of the opaline film by artists. The Decision Support System, an adaptation of the production planning model for make-to-order companies developed at Lancaster University, uses a heirarchical methodology involving both customer order inquiry and job release decision levels.
