The US needs to reassess its military presence in Asia now that the Soviet Union is no more. Pres Bush stated the need for a continued presence at his recent summit in Japan, but the closing of the Subic Bay base in the Philippines means operations will have to be relocated.

Nukes out: the defence budget

George Bush's proposed fiscal 1993 defense budget includes major manpower and equipment reductions as well as sweeping cuts in strategic weaponry. Many weapons systems are being curtailed or eliminated, such as the B-2 bomber and the Seawolf submarine.
