Proton on a slippery slope

The market share of Proton Holdings, a Malaysian state-owned automobile company, has reduced from 70% in the 1990's to 50% in 2003. The main reason cited is the increasing global competition which is offering cars at reduced price. The government is considering extending protection to keep Proton competitive.
