ROCKWOOL: KEEP OUT OF IT
Article Abstract:
Rockwool (India) Ltd (RIL) incurred a net loss of Rs2.12 crore on sales of Rs8.76 crore in 1997-98. Alghanim Industries (Mauritius) - AIM - wants to acquire 24.93 percent stake in RIL. AIM is a subsidiary of Kuwait Insulating Material Manufacturing Company which makes glass- wool. Indian promoters hold 26 percent equity in RIL. Once AIM acquires 24.93 percent, the Indian promoters, under the BIFR (Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction) approved rehabilitation scheme, will contribute to the equity. The promoters will hold 82.59 percent and the public the rest of the shares. There has been no dividends to the investor till now. (nr)

Vikas WSP of Rajasthan manufactures guar polymers and its derivatives. It is a 100 percent export oriented unit (EoU) whose sales crossed the Rs100 crore mark in 1997-98. Sales increased to Rs112.07 crore from Rs67.94 crore due to capacity expansion in polymers and value addition into odourless guar polymers. However, its profits suffered due to high interest burden. It has recorded a rise of 45 percent in its bottomline to Rs28.27 crore from 19.46 crore. The company's order book is currently worth Rs27.36 crore and has announced a higher dividend of 40 percent. HERO HONDA RACES TO POLE POSITION AS BIKE SALES SHOW 25% GROWTH

The latest figures available with the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) reveals that Hero Honda leads in the motor cycle segment. During April-October 1998, Hero Honda posted sales growth of 30.16 percent against Escort Yamaha's 25.76 percent. While Bajaj Auto's sales grew by 17.23 percent, TVS Suzuki's sales showed growth of 24.6 percent. (ag)
