Reasons to be cheerful
Article Abstract:
Figures show that merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the UK and Europe grew in 1996. Some 13 deals, valued at more than one billion pounds sterling, took place in the UK. The key factors driving the market include the need for companies to focus on core activities and a move towards consolidation. Privatization in industries such as transport and telecommunications have also encouraged the M&A market. A review of M&A activity in the UK and Europe during 1996 is presented.
