Reflections on planning education in Europe
Article Abstract:
Education for urban planners in Europe needs strengthening in various aspects if the voice of planners is to be heard. Planning should, for example, integrate different strands of planning theory, and look beyond individual nations to Europe as a whole. Planners need to be politically aware, for example in lobbying for support for projects, they should be normative in their perspective, seek to innovate, and use an entrepreneurial approach, a stance which involves the ability to negotiate.

Make no little buildings
Article Abstract:
The skills of town planning and architecture are seldom taught as a single qualification, which means that very little knowledge overlap exists between the professions. The lack of inter-discipline understanding, which has become worse since the second world war, would be lessened if joint training exercises were carried out. The roles of the planner and architect have changed dramatically in recent years due to economic constraints and social attitudes.
