Rewards through risk: giving the market a chance
Article Abstract:
The American-Cambodian Business Council is firm in its belief that Cambodia is ripe for foreign investments. Council director Bretton Sciaroni advised US businessmen that the rewards in Cambodia outweigh the risk, especially in the garment, textile, agriculture and tourist sectors. Cambodia's 10.5 mil population is a big potential market and labor is inexpensive in the country. Businesses complain that Cambodia's stumbling block for foreign investments is its political climate and the lack of a legal framework that is in line with the region's economic grouping, the ASEAN.

Article Abstract:
The US' decision to withdraw its military presence from Asia is seen to affect the sale of American products and services to the region. This is because consumer products sold in US commissaries overseas invariably gain the attention of local markets, largely due to the free advertising they receive. This is amply illustrated by the experience of Coca-Cola in the region during World War II, where it built a large following after it supplied Coke to US armed forces deployed there.
