Road to Malaysia: Daim Zainuddin denies ties to Sagawa Kyubin
Article Abstract:
Daim Zainuddin, Malaysia's former finance minister, is under investigation concerning alleged payments made to him during his term by Tokyo Sagawa Kyubin Company Ltd's founder and chairman, Kiyoshi Sagawa. Daim claims that he only met Sagawa once during a factory tour in Japan and denies Sagawa's allegations that he paid Daim 1.5 billion yen. Daim's trip to Japan was in connection with a venture between United Sagawa Automobile Industries and United Engineers Malaysia, which was a monopoly created to service and inspect Malaysia's government-owned vehicles.

Under the influence: Sagawa testimony marked by inconsistencies
Article Abstract:
Some results of investigations of the bribery case involving former Japanese PM Noboru Takeshita are presented. Takeshita admitted having met Hiroyasu Watanabe, then president of Sagawa Kyubin trucking company, with the implicit knowledge that the meeting had something to do with approaching a gangster leader to stop a harassment campaign by the right-wing Kominto group against Takeshita's bid for the premiership. No definite progress in the case was obtained because of the vague testimonies of key persons in the affair.
