Runes among the ruins
Article Abstract:
A new library is to open in Corniche, Alexandria, Egypt, site of an ancient library, with space for storing up to 8 million volumes. There are questions as to the cost of the library, and its appropriateness. Funds have come from different Arab countries as well as Egypt, and governments and the United Nations have donated books. The director, Mohsen Zahran, aims to set up a library specialising in eastern Mediterranean civilizations. The original library was located in the same area, and there was little time for excavating the site before the new library was built.
