SAMSUNG UPS TV PRICES; TO LAUNCH MORE AC MODELS
Article Abstract:
Samsung India has increased the prices of select models of colour televisions (CTV) following the four percent surcharge proposed by the budget on imports and change in Modvat. The prices of five CTV models in the 14 inch, 20 inch and 21 inch have gone up by around Rs200-Rs400 per unit. For the six months ended June 30, 1998, the market share of Samsung went up to 9.5 percent in the CTV market and turnover stood at Rs200 crore. It hopes to achieve a total income of Rs600 crore by the end of 1998-99 with 75 percent of the contribution coming from audio- video products and 25 percent from white goods. By early September, Samsung plans to launch five new models of air- conditioners (ACs) consisting of room ACs, window type, both with remote and mechanical, in the one tonne, 1.5 tonne and two tonne categories. Samsung has already launched the 1.5 tonne room Acs - both window and split type - and it also sells a 2.34 tonne unit in the market. (gsh)
