AUSTRIA: MOBILKOM EYEING EASTERN MARKETS
Article Abstract:
Austria's biggest mobile phone operator Mobilkom Austria is to raise its stake in the Croatian mobile phone operator VIP-Net by 10% in the next few days from 41.4% at present. The Croatian operator, which expects to reach break-even in 2 years and make profits in 4 years, aims to have 40,000 subscribers by the end of 1999. The company has been granted a loan of EUR 120mn by a group of international banks. Beside applying for the first mobile phone licence in Albania, Mobilkom is also planning an entry onto the Slovak market. The Austrian company might either take a stake in the first mobile phone operator there or apply for a licence for the third network.
